50 Percent Cart Contaminated "E-coli"

Beware. Stroller or cart in a shopping center containing bacteria Eschericia coli (E. coli). Most bacteria are harmless, but some species are pathogenic and can cause diarrhea, respiratory disease, or food poisoning.

Conclusions are presented by a team of researchers from the University of Arizona, United States, after examining 85 randomly trolley from four states. They found that 72 percent of the trolley containing marker bacteria. Of this amount, then selected 36 samples and found 50 percent infected with E-coli.

"The number of bacteria is far more than we find in the toilet. This occurs because the toilets are regularly cleaned with disinfectant, but no one is cleaning trolleys with a liquid disinfectant," said Charles Gerba, a researcher who has expertise in the field of environment, water, and soil.
