Conclusions are presented by a team of researchers from the University of Arizona, United States, after examining 85 randomly trolley from four states. They found that 72 percent of the trolley containing marker bacteria. Of this amount, then selected 36 samples and found 50 percent infected with E-coli.
"The number of bacteria is far more than we find in the toilet. This occurs because the toilets are regularly cleaned with disinfectant, but no one is cleaning trolleys with a liquid disinfectant," said Charles Gerba, a researcher who has expertise in the field of environment, water, and soil.
Although the study sample was conducted in the United States, does not mean the same thing not found in Indonesia, considering that every day there are hundreds of people who in turn use the trolley.
Studies conducted Gerba about bacterial contamination at the supermarket is not the first. This study relates to previous studies in 2008 that found children who boarded the trolley at the supermarket more often exposed to two types of bacterial infections, ie, salmonella and campylobacter.
In June 2010, researchers from the Lorna Linda University also found a shopping bag that is used repeatedly can contain bacteria, including E-coli.
To avoid the adverse effects of this bacterial infection, suggested the importance of washing hands before eating habit.
